New Players

We will begin reviewing submitted New Player registrations in mid-May in preparation for the opening of New Player registration at 10AM on June 1st.

A player is considered a 'New Player' if they have NOT previously played minor hockey.

If your player has previously played minor hockey in another Association or Province - please use the Player Transfer page, as the process is different.

If your player was born outside of Canada and are registering to play hockey for the first time in Canada, we will require additional documentation to complete your registration. Please email our registrar - [email protected] for additional information.

STEP 1: Submit Required Documents via Email

The following information is required to process the registration of your child in the Cloverdale Minor Hockey Association.

Please gather ALL of the below items, and send as pdf attachments in an email to the email address: [email protected]

Registration will not be accepted without complete documentation.

☑ Player Registration Form
☑ Image or scan of birth certificate (or passport)
☑ Two proofs of residence (where any 2 of the following will be considered, but all proof of residence must be dated within 2 months of submission)
- BC Hydro bill (both statement and remittance stub)

 - Fortis bill (both statement and remittance stub)

 - Internet and/or Cable Bill (both statement and remittance stub)

 - Property tax notice (include portion that shows address)

If you do not have the above, tax statements (ie returns, gst refunds), MSP payment forms, Driver’s license with documented car insurance, or renters insurance bills could be considered acceptable substitutions.

* Please note that cellular or home phone bills are not accepted as proof of residence.

Don't have a scanner? No problem! You can download and use a scanning app on a phone or tablet to create a pdf files, such as Adobe Scan

If you are unable to provide PDF files, you will need mail the documents to our mailing address, or drop off photo copies of these documents to our 'Executive' mail box in Cloverdale Arena (in the hallway next to the stairs up to the stands)

STEP 2: Register Online and Submit Payment

Once the submitted documents are reviewed, and it is confirmed that your player has valid residency to register with CMHA, a Hockey Canada profile will be created for your player. We will then email you an HCR ID number, along with a link to the online registration for New Players.

Full instructions, including payment information, will be provided in the online registration process.

Please note that returning and transfer players do take priority over new players if there is a need for a waiting list in any division. We do make our very best effort to accommodate everyone, but we do work in that priority.

STEP 3: Skating Evaluation

For players new to CMHA, please note the following minimum required skating levels:

Birth years 2018-2017: Recommended that your child has taken skating lessons and can stop

Birth years 2015-2016: Recommended that your child has completed City of Surrey Level 5 preschool or Excellent Ice Level 3 (or equivalent) (ie stopping consistently, two foot skate and glide, forward slalom, skate backwards)

Birth years 2014 or earlier: Required that your child has completed City of Surrey's Children Level 2 or equivalent (forward pumping, backwards skating width of arena, cross steps, forward glide one foot, backwards slalom, consistently stopping, forward sculling).

CMHA will be holding an evaluation skate for all players new to hockey (Birth years 2014 or earlier). This is to ensure that players meet the minimum skating requirements to ensure their safety and enjoyment. If for any reason your player is deemed to be not ready for hockey yet, you can choose to either defer your fees to the following season or receive a full refund.

Your registration will not be confirmed until all 3 steps are complete.
